Post race update of the 2018 Jock Classic
“You win some, you lose some”, team Cycle Power’s mantra for the 2018 Jock Cycle race, the race saw the team have one of their worst days in the saddle.
Maurice Moller dropped off on the very first climb of the day, leaving only 2 riders to protect the leader, Keanan Roodt, and ensure he had fresh legs for the finish of the stage. A break of 3 riders went early on in the stage, causing the peloton chase and the racing to intensify. John Vlok dropped off just after the half way mark after doing his part for the team.
Stage 2 was hard from the gun with team BCX doing most of the controlling in the front, the young powerhouse, Marc Pritzen, broke away from the main peloton to take the stage win as a solo break. This made the riding very tough and fast paced for our boys; Keanan Roodt and John Vlok finished strong off the main bunch.
Team leader, Keanan Roodt, had an unfortunate tumble, which cost him a lot of time for Stage 3, as he had injured his knee, hip, elbow and hand. Dylan le Roux put in a tremendous effort in Stage 3, which came down to a sprint finish where he managed to get 4thplace.
Overall, Dylan le Roux finished 8th and 3rd U/23, Keanan Roodt finished 14th overall and John Vlok 17th. It was a tough day out for the team both physically and mentally, having to overcome a lot of obstacles and frustration with their bodies not coming to the party.
Moving forward with the racing season, the team is going to use the Jock Classic as a learning curve to keep improving on their results and staying positive.
Well done boys!
